This Meeting: Le Pelican French Bistro
lan O’Brien and Bob Graham treated us to a great lunch here in July 2007. The chef Jeff
Salet is preparing a new menu influenced from the French Provencale Basque region
this week, so we’ll have first choice for our luncheon..
Last Meeting: Alio Restaurant - 15 starters (84.13%)
A delightful day out in Surry Hills with Ashley and Tracey Hughes. Ashley (chef ) dished up a great meal and some handy comments to finish together with Tracey (running the floor) perfectly. Peter Denham gave them 90 (one of the best ever - sensational meal) which is the biggest score I’ve seen him give.
On arrival: A sensational antipasto at the bar went great with the chilled champagne Duperrey 2005 Vintage Brut. The secret with the olives is to slightly warm before serving.
Entrées A huge serve of large char grilled prawns with chilli and cherry tomatoes delightfully accompanied by a 2009 french drop of Simonnet — Febuve Chablis Cru Vaillons - super thanks Greg.
Main course A precisely slow cooked then char grilled scotch fillet with asparagus and 25 year old balsamic, hand picked green beans and toasted sesame, Tuscan fries with chilli and herbs was washed down with a smooth 2006 Brangayne Cab-Sav from
Orange. Horses A won by Peter James.
Dessert A beautiful soft centred rich chocolate pudding with roasted coconut ice cream ideally matched with a Padmore Family Old Vintage port, very nice Greg and moorish.
A great day had by all who attended.
