This Meeting: La Scarla on Jersey
Celebrity Chef Darren Simpson studied and began his career in Northern Ireland where he was born. Within two years of landing
his first job, Darren was named UK’s Young Chef of the Year. We are told that the ever spirited Simpson will deliver a Modern Italian
menu with a nod to the great classics.
Last Meeting: Sealevel Restaurant and Bar
19 members 4 guests. It was easy to go local and have great food and service. Sealevel is a top venue and I feel we all had an
enjoyable afternoon. First time I have seen 100% scoring since I have been Foodmaster. On arrival we had seared tuna with
salsa rossa and my favourite rock oyster with tomato consommé vodka and celery oil, they were enjoyed with 2006 Leeuwin
Estate Brut.
Entrée of Seared Japanese Scallops crispy pork belly with fennel puree and orange, pernod and star anise reduction went extremely
well with the 2008 TrimbachRiesling. Our main of green lobster tail grilled in ginger, garlic and chilli butter with mash and greens
was accompanied by 2009 Tiefenbrunner Pinot Gregio (the masked wine). The dark chocolate crème caramel with rosewater
poached strawberries, chocolate tuille and crème fraiche was sensational as was the De Bortoli Noble One that went with it.
Horses Arse was won by Peter James – a lucky guess.!!!
